My Family Privacy is a central site for families to reference
their preferences for privacy. Just because you are in
a picture with friends and family does not mean you necessarily
want it published and indexed throughout the world.
In the "old days,"
we would enjoy pictures with friends, and it was implied that
the pictures would be intimate and cherished in mutual private
photo albums.
In today's digital
world, many people frequently shares pictures. The
challenge, of course, is that the holder of the picture may want
to publish worldwide the exact picture that you want to remain
an intimate occasion.
The technology has
moved so quickly, that etiquette and courtesy have not yet
become established. People publish your
picture without asking your permission. An intrusion is
not intentional, of course; your friends think you will like it
because they like it. You are not a hermit.
Maybe you just want some old-fashioned intimacy with family and
friends. Surely, because we can publish a picture, does
not mean that we should...

You are the
parent for a child or children. People love to share
pictures of your children. They love them, too, right?
But, you, as the parent, may not want pictures of your
children published on the Internet for the world to research
and to see and to replicate at will.
-
Sometimes people
put your name with the picture, which gives people even more
power to research you and your family online by way of the
powerful indexing engines. Search engines pick up your
name, your family member names, and the picture. It
gets indexed on your name, forever...
MyFamilyPrivacy is about
asking for respect for your privacy, by your friends and family,
who should appreciate and respect your wishes. |
